3rd Annual Bull Roast a Success
The Baltimore County Fallen Firefighters Foundation would like to thank everyone who participated in this Sunday’s Bull Roast. This was our 3rd annual event and it was a resounding success. We netted approximately $12,000 for the cause.
We really appreciated the support of Chief Hohman. He not only attended the event, but also took a pie in the face for $1,000. In case you were curious, Lt Bob Murray of Station 17-B (use to be Captain) threw the pie. In addition, BCs Wayne Tome, Steve Lancaster, Director Rick Petry, Local 1311 President Mike Day, and Retired Captain Richard Brooks all took a pie in the face. We would also like to give a special thanks to Lt Chuck Leonard (EMS 7-B) who won the 50/50 for $1,000 and gave the money back to the foundation. Thanks for your continuing support and we look forward to seeing you at our next event.
The BCoFFF acknowledges the concern of Baltimore County Volunteer Firefighters being excluded from benefits available from our organization. We offer the following explanation to help you better understand why this is:
The BCoFFF was born just three years ago at the wishes of our beloved brother, Tom “T.R.” Rice-a career member of the BCoFD and a pillar of the volunteer fire service in the State of Maryland. At a bull roast to benefit him and his family, he said that anyone in our brotherhood should get the kind of help and support that he and his family was getting. Some of those closest to him and his family-career members, volunteers, and even civilians, wanted to honor his wishes. So the BCoFFF was born; it’s mission, simple: to support our brothers and sisters in need. The start of a non-profit organization is relatively simple, but the support and energy behind it takes time, and ultimately its success depends on the donations and funds it’s able to raise. A policy to ensure funds are distributed fairly is an equally difficult feat, as everyone’s needs will be different and based on a lot of variables. As we continue to work to garner support and resources from those outside of our circle of brotherhood we have little choice but to carefully scrutinize who we can support, and how much we can support them. There are over 1100 career personnel in the BCoFD and over 3000 volunteers. Currently, our funds simply do not allow us to extend our hand to almost double the personnel in addition to those in the BCoFD.
In the future, it is our hope and intent to include all members of the Baltimore County Fire Service-both career and volunteer members. Certainly, this is what T.R. would have wanted and we will continue to work hard to meet that goal. Until then, we hope you will help and support us in any way you can.
In Brotherhood,
Board of Directors, BCoFFF
Thank you to the "Baltimore Bulls" Football Team for sponsoring the BCoFFF attire worn at the Towson Town Festival.
